Shuggie and the Medic Dog – Club Petsit Toronto
This is one of my favourite adventures with Shuggie in Club Petsit Toronto; we were sitting outside on our daily outing when a little tanned Chihuahua named Milo spotted Shuggie as he was walking with his human. Milo’s mom asked if it was okay that he approach, which is always appreciated- and I smiled because I was certain that Shuggie would relish in the company of a friendly dog.
I nodded and Milo bolted past me and went right up to Shuggie and began to sniff him. Everywhere. Milo’s mom and I watched as Milo began to examine Shuggie and then lick his sore spots. Milo found the wound on Shuggie’s leg and immediately attended to it. Then he examined Shuggie’s mouth and began licking the bad teeth.
I was touched and astounded at this display of tenderness and exchange of loving energy. Shuggie seemed to really appreciate Milo’s efforts and even reciprocated some kisses. Milo’s mom proceeded to tell me that they nick named him ‘Milo the medic’ because he acts like a nurse to other dogs. He will examine them and lick the spots on their bodies that are wounded or have infections. He has even been able to tell when another dog is getting sick or has an ailment their human doesn’t know about.
My heart completely melted. We sat watching Milo lick and sniff Shuggie for about 15 minutes before his mom had to pull him away to get going. It was such a beautiful example of love and kindness- we can learn so much about compassion from this one single interaction. Thank You Milo. For your good soul and the love you gave to Shuggie. This moment became a memory that I will always cherish. Animals are truly amazing.
